About
Bring an old sweater to cut from a pattern and make some adorable mittens! It would not be practical to bring sewing machines to the clubhouse so you will have to do the sewing at home. A blanket stitch will be demonstrated which is recommended for hand sewing. The warmest mittens are made from felted wool sweaters, but you can use an acrylic blend and then line them with a fleece or flannel material. Sweaters to be felted should contain over 50% wool. To felt a sweater and bring the fibers closer together you will have to wash it two times in hot water and then dry it on high heat. Expect a lot of shrinkage with this procedure. It is best to use a large or extra-large sweater. Wool blend sweaters can be found at Goodwill for +/- $7.00. Patterns will be available for you to take home.
