Creative Endeavors has upcoming events you may be interested in participating. Thursday April 21st from 10-12 AM at the Club House we are going to learn the Japanese art of Gyotaku. This art form started in the 1880’s by Japanese fishermen to document their catch. They would make a print of each fish right on the deck of the boat by painting sumi ink on the top surface of the fish, placing rice paper over that, then rubbing with their hands over the paper to create an exact representation of that fish. When they went to market, they could show buyers the exact size and species of their catch. These prints can be painted with watercolors to enhance their beauty. You are welcome to join us in this adventure of Gyotaku.
That evening of April 21st from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Club House we will conduct a class on paper flowers. This is a popular craft now displayed in craft and home furnishing stores and has also been featured on home decorating shows on TV. You will make three different kinds of flowers to take home with you. Directions and patterns for additional flowers will be available. A great Spring activity to decorate your home or give as gifts. The class size is limited to ten so to afford materials and give you the individual attention you may need. You will need to RSVP though the newsletter or at the office. The class is FREE! All you need to bring is your hot glue gun and glue sticks, all other materials will be provided.
The last Thursday of the month we will have the first part of two sessions on Origami. Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding started over a thousand years ago. We will make a variety of three- dimensional figures from a single sheet of paper. These characters will be used later to make mobiles in the following Thursday’s class. These mobiles can be used in your home décor or as a kinetic sculpture in a nursery. It’s a super activity to share with children.
Creative Endeavors is open to all residence.
You are welcome to attend every Thursday at the Club House from 10:00 to 12:00 AM. Bring your crafty project to work on as we exchange ideas, techniques and materials. Learn new activities, expand your mind and you just may find a new hobby. Tie dye, crochet and calligraphy are on the horizon so you will want to stay connected. We are always looking for new ways to express ourselves and expand our creativity from members in our community. If you have a craft or art form you would like to learn let us know and we will make an effort to arrange an activity.
